Everyone knows that some of the most wonderful themes for baby showers are usually nursery rhyme or story book themed parties. From ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’ to ‘Hickory Dickory Dock’, nursery rhymes have been with us from the very beginning of our lives and are likely to outlive us in some form or another. And what better way is there to celebrate the coming of new life into the world than with a nursery rhyme themed party?

But what does it take to make a really good nursery rhyme themed party? Of course the first thing you got to have down is the invitation. So you’ve drawn the timeless nursery rhyme characters like Mother Goose, Humpty Dumpty or Jack and Jill but don’t know how to proceed after that? Write an invitation message that is sure to tickle people’s fancies. Here is an example:

‘Once upon a time, in a far away kingdom called Hawthorne Heights in the lands of California, there lived a lady named Anna Maria Johnson. Now this queen lived in the castle of #23 Chestnut Drive. One day, a dashing young knight named Philip Seymour came to rescue her from the boredom of her life and made her the happiest lady in the kingdom. Now we ladies of the court invite you to witness the fruit of their union, the heiress to the Seymour name, little Liza Angela. Come, bear gifts and see the fairest little babe in the land come into our world!’

And what should you have for food? You should definitely have food that’s perfect for the theme. Need ideas? Why not go for the immortal gingerbread men! Want some healthy options? Maybe a bean salad or an egg dish, inspired by Jack and the Beanstalk and Humpty Dumpty respectively, will do a wonderful job.
